Come with us now, on a journey through time and space, coming at you….boosh, boosh stronger than a moose! Don’t lock your door or we’ll come in from the rooftop! It’s the Mighty Boosh!

If that sounded downright daft, that’s because it is.

What is The Mighty Boosh? Frankly, I can’t tell you. All I know is that it’s funny and Noel Fielding is in it as narcissistic and sometimes childlike Vince Noir – and I love his clothes and fashion sense. Vince’s pal, Howard Moon, played by Julian Barratt, is just about the complete opposite of Vince: simple and generally nondescript, and describes himself as a serious person, compared to Vince who doesn’t seem to do any labour at all and just goes about admiring himself, especially his hair, in the mirror.

The show is about Vince and Howard’s bizarre, sometimes – often – surreal, adventures. It always seems there’s impending danger but there never is. More often than not, you’ll end up splitting your side from laughing so hard. Most of the time, the motto seems to be “don’t take life too seriously”.

I had been aware of the show for a while, but only in passing, since I became a fan of Noel Fielding and his comedy work (and his clothes), watching him on the British music quiz show Never Mind the Buzzcocks. I only properly discovered The Mighty Boosh last Saturday but within less than a week I’m hooked and brought my family along with me. I’ve become something of a super fan. It all started with this video:

After watching that video and sharing it with the family, we watched the full episode (“Tundra”) and every evening since we’ve watched one or two episodes on YouTube. It was only last night that we took a break, although earlier I’d had something of a Boosh overdrive from watching various clips on YouTube.

Today I splurged on buying the complete series (three) on iTunes for $19.99 (Canadian), compared to buying each one individually for $14.99. Oh, we are in Mighty Boosh Heaven. (It is downloading now as I post this.)

You see how quickly this development is going?

The Mighty Boosh started off as a stage show, then it also became a radio show, and then it became a TV show. Now even a movie is (hopefully still) in the works. I also wouldn’t mind an album of the songs and music that featured in the TV show, since they’re really good and well-written. I wish that the songs were sold on iTunes. Just for an example, we’ll replay the Tundra Rap (or Ice Flow song) on repeat because it’s so good and fun.

Even if his character Howard only has an ear for jazz (electronic music making him feel physically ill), Julian Barratt has a great musical sense and wrote all the music for the show while Noel Fielding did the show’s artwork and graphics.

For anyone who appreciates some silly entertainment, The Mighty Boosh is for you. Here are some more clips, below, for your enjoyment. (This took a lot of discipline, as there are many clips I love and have fallen over screaming and laughing while watching. This is not an exaggeration.)

(I’m not a big Rolling Stones fan, or have ever really watched videos of them but, gosh, this cracks me up every time because he’s so good at it! “Swear on Jagger!”)

(Since watching this episode that this clip’s taken from, I want a poncho for Christmas. I’m on the lookout. “It’s impossible to be unhappy in a poncho.” I actually sold myself on the idea of giving everyone ponchos for Christmas.)

(Vince’s hair! The hair! Noel Fielding sports a lot of great and fun looks throughout the series.)

(This is a deleted scene from the pilot episode, but it is not from the actual series like the above clips. I’m getting ideas for my next haircut and colouring from Vince’s hair in this one.)

Some music from the Boosh.
